The prestigious Brasília Film Festival is celebrating its 57th edition with the participation of a film from Amazonas: Enquanto o Céu Não Me Espera (While the Sky Does Not Wait) is competing in the national feature film category, the festival’s main section. The film, directed and written by Christiane Garcia, will be screened on December 4 at 9:00 PM (local time) at Cine Brasília, with earlier screenings at 8:00 PM in the RAs of Gama, Planaltina, and Taguatinga.
Filmed before the pandemic, the story follows a humble farmer, tied to the memories of his father, who struggles to keep his family on their small plot of land despite the challenges posed by the flooding of the Amazon rivers. The film stars Irandhir Santos, alongside Priscilla Vilela, Maycon Douglas, Jully Fabielly, and Cauãn Eduardo.
The late Jean Robert César is credited as the executive producer of Enquanto o Céu Não Me Espera, with a technical team that includes Paulo Augusto Mendes (set producer), Ralf Tambke (director of photography), Ju Baratieri (sound), Heverson Batista (boom operator), Marcelo Silva, Wendy Chalco (art direction), and Paulo Cezar Freire (editing). The band Luneta Mágica contributed the song “A Casa do Sol Nascente” to the soundtrack.
Amazonas returns to the festival following the participation of Antes o Tempo Não Acabava (Before Time Ends), directed by Sérgio Andrade, which competed for the Best Brazilian Feature Film award in 2016, and Terra Nova, directed by Diego Bauer, which contended for the Best Short Film award in 2021.
